“Ekadashi” is a Sanskrit word that means “eleventh”. In Hinduism, it refers to the eleventh day of the waxing and waning phases of the moon in the lunar calendar. There are two Ekadashi days in each month, one during the waxing phase and the other during the waning phase.

Ekadashi is considered an important day for fasting and spiritual practices in Hinduism. It is believed that observing a strict fast on Ekadashi can help purify the body and mind, and can also help one progress spiritually.

There are various rituals and customs associated with Ekadashi, including abstaining from grains, lentils, and certain vegetables, and engaging in meditation, chanting, and other devotional practices.

Some of the important Ekadashi observances in Hinduism include Nirjala Ekadashi, which is observed without consuming any food or water, and Vaikuntha Ekadashi, which is considered one of the most auspicious days for Vishnu devotees.
